The NFL and Apple Music confirmed that the 25-time Grammy winner will take the stage himself after years of helping choose and produce the show's performers.

Jay-Z, who has spent years helping pick the artists for the Super Bowl halftime show, will perform as the headliner at the 2027 event. The NFL and Apple Music revealed the news on social media during Monday night's game between the Dallas Cowboys and the Philadelphia Eagles.

The announcement confirmed earlier reporting from Puck, which had cited industry sources. The post carried the line "GOAT's out of the bag" and included a black-and-white video of the 25-time Grammy winner sitting in the stands with a goat on his lap. The audio was the opening line of his song "Public Service Announcement (Interlude)": "Allow me to reintroduce myself."

Jay-Z's entertainment company, Roc Nation, has partnered with the NFL and produced the halftime show since 2019. NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell said in a statement that he has seen the "extraordinary impact" the rapper and mogul has had on the production. Goodell added that when the league first agreed to have Roc Nation produce the show, he made one request: that Jay-Z perform himself one day, whenever the moment felt right to him.

Super Bowl 61 is scheduled for Feb. 14 at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, California, near Los Angeles. The game and halftime show will air on ESPN, ABC and Disney+, as well as on mobile devices through NFL+.

The headlining slot follows the conclusion of Jay-Z's 30 Tour, which marked three decades since his debut album, "Reasonable Doubt." The tour stopped in Paris, London and his hometown of New York City, and its last two shows took place at SoFi Stadium. Jay-Z, whose real name is Shawn Carter, brought out several guests during the run, including his wife, Beyoncé.

"From Reasonable Doubt to standing on the Super Bowl Halftime stage, this has been a journey," he said in a statement Monday. "Thirty years of music, work, and culture on the world's biggest stage. This run continues to be a dream come true."

It remains unclear whether Beyoncé or any of his other well-known friends and collaborators will make appearances during the performance. Many past headliners have invited major stars to join them, though some, including The Weeknd and Rihanna, performed solo.

Last year's game, broadcast on NBC and Peacock, featured Bad Bunny as headliner, with cameos from Lady Gaga and Ricky Martin. That show won seven Creative Arts Emmys this year, making it the most awarded halftime show in history. It was Bad Bunny's first Emmy and Jay-Z's third, as both served as producers. Kendrick Lamar, who headlined the 2025 show, also won an Emmy for his performance.

Oliver Schusser, Apple's vice president of music and international content, said fans can expect "an incredible show" from Jay-Z, whose "impact on global music culture is as profound as it is undeniable."
