Hilary Rosen has been named the new chair of BAFTA, the British film and television academy announced. She succeeds Sara Putt, who is stepping down after serving a three-year term.

Rosen had been serving as Putt's deputy and now moves into the top role. In it, she will oversee BAFTA's mission to champion talent in film, games and television through its awards, its leadership within the industry and its development programs that run throughout the year.

She has been a member of the BAFTA Television Committee since 2021 and later became its chair. According to the academy, she helped shape the TV and Craft Awards and oversaw their juries.

Away from BAFTA, Rosen works as director of commissioning at UKTV, where she leads the channel group's slate of original scripted and unscripted programming.

Ade Rawcliffe and Andrew Miller will support Rosen as deputy chairs of the Academy. Both will serve two-year terms.

The academy also announced appointments to its Board of Trustees following what it described as a thorough election process. Charu Desodt and Caroline Levy are the new chairs of the Games and Television Committees respectively, while Nahrein Kemp will take on the role of LIT Committee Chair. Shrina Shah, who chairs the governance and appointments committee, will also join the Board of Trustees.

Rosen called her promotion "a great privilege." She said she has long been passionate about BAFTA's work to promote the screen arts and champion talent across the screen industries.

She added that she was delighted to take on the role alongside the newly appointed committee chairs, Desodt, Levy and Kemp, and the rest of the Board of Trustees. Describing them as "outstanding industry leaders," Rosen said she is confident the board will "continue to build on the important and impactful work that has gone before."
